Atlast, the justice has been done in the Salman Khan’s poaching case. It has taken a long time, for the law to take its course in the case(like it always does in India) but justice prevailed. It proves the fact that nobody is above the law. Whether you’re an actor or a politician, you will have abide the rules. Ofcourse, Salman Khan being the rich man that he is, will not stop here. He will go to a higher court to appeal against this. Meanwhile, he will get a bail, get out jail and then hit some baddies and goons or even poachers to death in his movies. Ironical isnt it? That our role models and heroes have to be those who run around without their shirts, drive cars over sleeping people and kill innocent animals for the heck of it.
The role of Bishnois in this case has been commendable. The way they fought against the movie star is truly praise worthy. Their ideals and their love for nature is amazing. The story about how 300 odd Bishnoi women were hacked to death because they were trying to save trees has really moved me. The article in Mumbai Mirror titled, B for Bictory, about the Bishnoi community makes a great read.
Finally a few ideals of Bishnoi community. If only everyone in the country are as idealistic as these people.
• Never cut a young tree, but wait for it to age and die, then use it as timber.
• Bury your dead simply, so that the earth assimilates the flesh; and you save on the wood needed for a casket or a cremation.
• Practice cleanliness and a high level of hygiene, for these will guard you from disease.
• Protect wildlife – they too play a role in maintaining soil fertility and in holding the balance of life forms.
• Conserve water for use by man and animals, by building tanks everywhere. Practice vegetarianism.
• Do not have addictions – alcohol, tobacco, tea!
• Do not expect or seek, alms or subsidy, from king or government; believe in self-help.
• Let women wear bright clothes of red or orange and the men white, as a symbol of undiluted
devotion to the faith.
